The assumption that European white-label ETFs are synonymous with thematic equity and crypto strategies may soon be dispelled as fixed income and commodity managers look for quick access to the market, according to Jason Griffin, director of capital markets and business development at HANetf.

In a recent ETF Stream webinar, titled ETF investigations: The rise of white-label ETF issuers in Europe, Griffin (pictured) said asset managers in new asset classes and regions are looking for white-label entry to Europe.

"We were reaching out to fixed income managers, trying to get them excited about ETFs, but there was not much going on in fixed income from 2018 to 2022.

"With interest rates, fixed income is back on the table. We are having conversations about fixed income that we did not have in that first two years," Griffin continued. "Same with commodities. We were not finding many exciting ideas to with commodities, other than from banks. That has all changed."

He added HANetf's partnership with a Bolsa Mexicana is only the start of non-US IP being white labelled into UCITS.

"In my career in asset management, you have seen many US and European asset managers go to Asia and not the other way but that is definitely changing."

Speakers in the webinar include:

Peter Capper, senior advisor for international fund regulation at the Investment Association

Jason Griffin, director of capital markets and business development at HANetf

Stephen Carson, partner at A&L Goodbody
